How to Style a Colorblock Pop Art T-shirt
Pop Art was a movement which inspired fashion designers in 1960s to set out an idea which suggested that there should be no hierarchy of culture and that art may barrow from any source. Colorblocking was also known in the 60s for its bold, geometric patterns. Very often you will see these two combined - bright, solid-colored blocks of different hues featuring some type of a graphic designs like paintings of mass culture objects and media stars.
The trend continues to pop up on the runways and in stores today, and will be one to watch for this upcoming spring and summer!
Here are a few tips on how to style a colorblock pop art t-shirt:
1. With the colors being bold and bright, it’s best to keep the rest of your outfit neutral. The art on the t-shirt is meant to pop so you want to keep that as your main focus of the ensemble and not add too much colors.
2. A t-shirt is a casual item, so I would suggest dressing it up with a jacket. Choose to wear a jacket that’s the same color as the main part of the shirt or wear one of the bright colors from the art on the tee to balance out the colors. A bomber jacket will make the t-shirt look less casual but not too dressy.
3. For shoes, you can choose to keep it simple and go with black or white. What would look really cute with this outfit is a pair of super bright green or blue strappy heels. I chose to keep the outfit more casual with my Timberlands, but a cute bright pop of color down there wouldn’t hurt.
Pop art can be funny, cool or just plain, but it always carries a message, so make sure you feel comfortable with that.
